Update from Scout!
Greeting from Scout ( the lesser known support vehicle in a Solar Car caravan)!
Very little is known about us. We're one of the few teams to have a Scout Car with a dedicated group of student to actively clear the road of any potential hazards to the Solar Car. We'll brush off gravel, shovel road kill, move mountains (okay we're still working on moving mountains), etc to get a clear path for the solar car.
In Short, we put "smooth" in "Go Fast, Go Smooth, Go Blue"
So today was pretty mild, unfortunately ... for us. We've so far had to stop for the following:
- Towel (Favorite one so far!)
- Bird
- Opossum
- Shattered Brick
- Left over Fast food (Yummy)
- Metal Plate
- Rope (Hopefully what ever it was tying down is still tied down!)
- Glove (right hand)
More to come! Got to go, we've got road hazards!
Love,
Scout

Why can't somebody tell us where you are, who is ahead, how far from next destination, weather, so forth? There is a full-blown news blackout. Some tv station in Ft. Worth Texas reported that the cars left this morning. No media coverage exists, so far as I know. So the U-M Blog team is the best news available---and that news sucks if you will pardon my critique.
So this blog has to be moderated? This kills the real-time value of this.
Is moderation needed as a means to stop terrorism?
Let real time messages flow!
Scout,
Good report! Loved it. No kangaroo carcases this time around?
I've to go check my gloves.

Anonymous:
We just learned last night that NASC was not going to be providing live tracking of all the teams. Each team does have a data logger installed, but it appears as that race officials will be using the data for other purposes only.
I turned off moderation, which had previously been enabled due to all the blog spam we get. Hopefully, during the race, meaningful discussion will outnumber blogspam.
Thanks for your critique--we welcome your ideas and will do our best to keep everyone updated.

Oh, the underappreciated, overworked, Scout Crew. Keep up the good work removing tires, gravel, cows and whatever else from the road! Anything to keep Continuum moving...
- Maggie (aka shovel master '05)
Oh Ric... That's all I can say.
